The Assistant Coach plays a critical role in ensuring consistent supervision, strong practice implementation, and a positive, structured experience for all athletes.Coaches are key members of the Athletics team and ensure the continued excellence, growth and sustainability of DREAM’s Athletics programs.This role reports to the Dean of Student Life and works under the leadership of the Head Coach.ResponsibilitiesSupport the implementation of structured, high-quality practices and lead when the head coach is not present/available Execute drills and activities with clarity, energy, and attention to detailReinforce expectations for behavior, effort, and participationReinforce key youth development competencies:TeamworkSportsmanshipSelf-regulationSupport students in managing emotions, resolving conflicts, and meeting team expectationsModel positive behavior and consistently uphold team standardsMaintain active supervision at all times (constant scanning, proximity, engagement)Support safe arrival, transitions, and dismissal proceduresEnsure all safety protocols are followed consistently and without exceptionImmediately communicate any safety concerns to the Head Coach Accurately support attendance tracking for all practices and gamesCommunicate promptly with the Head Coach regarding any concerns or updatesFollow all internal protocols related to student eligibility, behavior, and participationMaintain professionalism in all communication with students, staff, and familiesSupport recruitment and engagement of athletesAssist with game-day logistics and team managementExecute responsibilities with consistency, reliability, and attention to detailCore Professional ExpectationsDemonstrate consistent, reliable attendance and punctualityFollow the direction from the Head Coach and Athletics leadershipAdhere strictly to all safety, communication, and organizational protocolsMaintain professionalism and strong judgment at all timesQualifications1-2+ years of coaching or youth program experience preferredExperience working with school-age children requiredUnderstanding of the sport’s rules and fundamentals requiredAbility to effectively support youth development and behavior managementStrong communication skills and attention to detailCPR/First Aid certification, a plusStrong alignment with DREAM’s mission and valuesCommitmentStart date: August 24End date: November 30Days & hours: Monday-Thursday, 3-6pmNote: DREAM full-time staff who are coaches are expected to report to their posts at 4pmEvening and weekend gamesDates and hours are subject to change.LocationDREAM is hiring coaches for our East Harlem Middle School Location: East Harlem: 1991 2nd Avenue, New York, NYHighbridge: 1162 River Avenue, Bronx, NYMott Haven: 20 Bruckner Blvd, Bronx, NYPractices take place at the school, or in surrounding areas in East Harlem or the South Bronx. The rate for incoming Assistant Coaches who are also DREAM full-time staff is a $3000 per season stipend.
